BotP Comic Set to End With Issue #12

Message from BotP comic writer, Munier Sharrieff, taken from the Yahoo! BotP Mailing List, March 1, 2003.

In my own opinion, the following post explains in part why the book failed. Members of the mailing list complained about the flat stereotypes of the characters in the comic and elicited this response:

Subject: [BotP] CHARACTERIZATION
This is a comment to an e-mail from the always eloquent Dei.

I feel that from day one this book has way more character depth than the BOTP series ever had. Talk about cookie cutter.

Don't get me wrong--I LOVE BOTP/GATCHAMAN, but sometimes the best of us suffer "fan-vision". We remember something with such great fondness that when we see it again years later---we still hold on to that fondness despite the material's obvious flaws.

One of the things I've set out to accomplish from the start with this book is too give attention to two of the team I liked the least---Tiny and Keyop.

No one can tell me that in this books relative short run---that these aren't developed characters---ten times more so than in the show. The same goes with Anderson and Zoltar.

Anderson was nothing more than a figure head and Zoltar was a by the book villian. Now these guys are portrayed with depth. Anderson is a man with secrets and has taken on the burden of fighting a secret war on his own. And Zoltar is one sick puppy---and as you the readers will see---villians aren't born, they're made. And yes--having Zoltar carve a name in Anderson's chest shows that he hates him deeply, and he has good reason, a reason that will be revealed in issues to come. And yes I also stand behind the "cat scene", HELLO Spectra is THE BAD GUY, they HATE US! They have no respect for human life, not to mention animal.

And for the record---Keyop acted in self defense. These guys are ninja--TRAINED ASSASSINS--not the Peace Corps.

In closing--I'm not gonna sit here and say that I'm god's gift to writing, I learn more everyday. However I can say with all honesty that I think the book is good and that it's an improvement on the show. Wilson is an amazing artist--I wish you guys could see these pages I'm looking at for issue #8, they are off the chain.
