Tatsunoko Productions' Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman premieres in Japan
September, 1977: Tatsunoko Pro president and Gatchaman's creator, Tatsuo Yoshida, passes away at the age of 45
July, 1978: The Gatchaman feature plays in Japanese movie theaters
April - September, 1978Bunka Broadcasting airs 16 Gatchaman Radio Drama episodes that cover Gatchaman and Gatchaman II storylines, as well as several parodies and two original fan-written stories
September, 1978: Sandy Frank's version of Gatchaman premieres Battle of the Planets in the U.S.
October, 1978 -
September, 1979:
Tatsunoko Productions' Gatchaman II premieres in Japan
October, 1979 -
August, 1980:
Tatsunoko Productions' Gatchaman Fighter premieres in Japan
September, 1986: Sandy Frank's lease runs out; Ted Turner's version of Gatchaman, G-Force, Guardians of Space begins on TBS and continues on the Cartoon Network
October, 1994 -
August, 1995:
A three-part remake of Gatchaman is released on video in Japan
September, 1996: Saban Entertainment's dubbed versions of Gatchaman II and Fighter premiere in the U.S. as Eagle Riders
May 20, 2000: Gatchaman is released on DVD in Japan.
September, 2000: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) releases a revamped, live-action/anime Gatchaman campaign, featuring the members of boy-band SMAP, to advertise their internet services. The campaign features four video commercials and a web site, and lasts one month.
February, 2001: Battle of the Planets is released on video in the UK by Mollin Video. More releases (as well as a US release by Rhino Video) to follow!
