The Villain's Gallery

Sosai ("Generalissimo") X

The X-file... sorry. AKA: "The Great Spirit"/"The Luminous One" (BotP) Computor (G-Force), Cybercon (Eagle Riders), Lord Zortek (dubbed Gatchaman OAV)
Info: Sosai X is from the world Selectoru in the Andromeda Galaxy. It is said that he has been dormant on Earth for thousands of years. He is responsible for the creation of Berg Katse and the takeover of Gallactor (which was believed to have started out as a Mafia organization). His primary goal was the takeover of Earth for the use of his people, but when he discovered that his world had been destroyed, he decided to take out his frustrations and destroy the Earth instead, using the ISO's Mantle Plan (a plan to tap energy from the Earth's mantle layer) and warping it into the Black Hole Operation.
Despite his high IQ, he has the emotional maturity of a child, and enjoys bullying Katse and his followers.
After fleeing the Earth at the end of the first series, Sosai X returns in Gatchaman II with a new look (shown at right), a new base of operations, a new subgeneral, and a new goal: the complete destruction of Earth through the Solar Shift Plan (an attempt to plunge the Earth into the sun).
Voice Actors: Tanaka Nobuo (Gatchaman, Gatchaman '94); Keye Luke (BotP); Jan Rabson/Gregg Berger (G-Force); Peter Spellos (Eagle Riders)

Berg Katse

Here's Katse AKA: Zoltar/Mala (BotP) Gallactor (G-Force), Lukan (Eagle Riders), Solaris (dubbed Gatchaman '94 OAV)
Nationality: Unknown
Age: Unknown
The Onna TaichoSpecialties: A master of disguise and subterfuge, full of tricks and hidden bombs. A superb escape artist.
Info: Katse is a mutant, created when Sosai X merged male and female twins in their mother's womb. As a result, Katse can shift genders, and spent years transferring between schools due to a yearly gender change until he/she gained control over this ability. When female, Katse is said to have an IQ of over 280 (and is sometimes seen in the series as the Female General, or Mala in Battle of the Planets). Katse may also be able to change shape. Katse managed to keep his/her identity secret throughout most of the series until Dr. Nambu dug up some old school records and documentation, then fit the puzzle pieces together.
Note: While some fans refer to Katse as a hermaphrodite, Katse is actually a mutant who is either completely male or completely female at any given time. With one exception: the time he was caught in the backwash of the Mechaziner Ray in one of the final episodes of Gatchaman--the first time viewers see Katse officially unmasked.
Voice Actors: Terashima Mikio (Gatchaman); Shiozawa Kaneto (Gatchaman '94); Keye Luke (BotP); Bill Capizzi (G-Force)

The Gallactor Goons

Gallactor soldiers doing what they do best AKA: The Spectrans (BotP); the Vorak (Eagle Riders)
Nationality: While the Spectrans are aliens and the Vorak are robots, the Gallactors are human, from countries around the globe.
Specialty: What's a heroic adventure show without huge squadrons of cannon fodder, led by the doomed general of the week, for our heroes to mow down? Gallactor Human Resources appears to recruit these guys out of prisons and flophouses worldwide. Some are not terribly bright and display all the requisite vices (laziness, tendency to smoke and drink a lot). Others appear to be hard luck cases who joined the Syndicate and suddenly discovered they couldn't get out again without being killed.

The Devil Stars

AKA: The Galaxy Girls (BotP)
Description: Gallactor's elite force of vicious female ninja, led by the Onna Taicho (Berg Katse in female form). These women use rocket vehicles that assemble in the Devil Star, Katse's personal transport craft. Armed with guns, rose bombs and ring explosives, these women consistently gave the Kagaku Ninjatai a run for their money. A Devil Star was responsible for killing Joe's parents.
This particular Devil Star was killed by Joe.

The Blackbirds

Another special ninja force created specifically to defeat the Kagaku Ninjatai, these bikers in birdstyle started out as a formidable force in the beginning, but later became as easy to defeat as the green goons. A contingent of Blackbirds was, at one time, led by Koji Yabane, a down-on-his-luck motorcycle racer and old boyfriend of Jun's.

GelSadora (Gatchaman II)

GelSadora AKA: Mallanox/Nancy Aikens (Eagle Riders)
Nationality: Unknown
Age: 6
Specialties: Somehow she manages to run the Gallactor organization, so you can credit her with some intelligence. Not a slouch in a fight. Very good at escaping.
Info: Leader of Gallactor; Sosai X's latest puppet and chew toy. GelSadora is a mutant, force-grown from a six-year-old girl X took from a ship he wrecked. (This explains her towering height, strange masculine voice and tendency toward childish tantrums.) She later discovers that she was Sammie Pandora, and X retaliates by killing her mother--a very bad move.
Voice Actors: Ikeda Masaru (Gatchaman II); R. Martin Klein (Eagle Riders)

Sosai Z (Gatchaman F)

AKA: "Zed" (Gatchaman F), Cybercon (Eagle Riders)
Info: A single cell from Sosai X manages to survive the desperate battle at the end of Gatchaman II. The cell grows and mutates into a new alien form which builds a giant floating pyramid to use as a base of operations. In his latest incarnation, Zed is wiser and more powerful than before, and just as hell-bent on destroying the Earth.
Voice Actors: Kato Seizo (Gatchaman F), Peter Spellos (Eagle Riders)
Zed

Count Egobossler (Gatchaman F)

The Desular/Bundole Clone AKA: Elun (Gatchaman F); "Happy Boy" (Eagle Riders)
Nationality: I think he's his own nationality.
Age: Unknown
Specialties: A master military strategist and ruthless leader who is not afraid to use all the resources at his command. A master at fencing.
Info: The mad ruler of a small, aggressive country that has just managed to take over most of Europe by force. Egobossler is not the true leader of the Egobossler family; rather he is Elun, the bastard son of the previous count and a housemaid. When the old Count whipped his mother to death for one of the Elun's transgressions, the young man went berserk, changed his face to match his half-brother's, dyed his skin blue, murdered his father and took the Count's place. He keeps his half-brother locked up in secret (a story identical to The Man in the Iron Mask).
Egobossler is a thoroughly nasty character who prefers to solve most of his personnel problems with a gun or sword. He wears a smiling mask in combat or when addressing his enemies onscreen. When he's not laying waste to various countries or plotting the ISO's demise, he enjoys sipping wine from a brandy glass and listening to operas on an old Victrola.
When Sosai Zed returned to power, he recognized Egobossler's potential and began providing him with monstermechs to help him take over the world. Egobossler accepted the help warily. Having studied what had happened to Berg Katse and GelSadora, he is determined not to be duped, but all villains have their weak spots.
Yes, he's really called "Happy Boy" in English. It was either that or "Merry Man" because, according to folks at Saban, "He likes to laugh so much." Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Voice Actor: Nakada Koji

Mechandol (Gatchaman F)

AKA: Olaf (Eagle Riders)
Info: Egobossler's big, brutish but extremely loyal second officer and bodyguard. He sticks with the Count to the very end, even when Egobossler falls out of favor due to a coup wrought by Kempler. He finally goes to his eternal reward when he attempts to shield Egobossler from Zed with his own body. Good help is hard to find.
Voice Actor: Miyamura Yoshito

Ego's Right Hand Man

Kempler (Gatchaman F)

The rebellious Kempler AKA: Vax (Eagle Riders)
Info: Egobossler's former second officer. After getting smacked by the Count once too often for some real or imagined bungle, Kempler decides to get even. He rescues the true head of the Egobossler family (masked, hobbled and hidden deep within a dungeon) and uses him as a puppet leader of the Family, while having Elun banished. Sosai Zed decides to back up the stronger of the two and sits back to watch them battle it out. Kempler eventually loses and is put to death by firing squad.
Voice Actor: Ogata Kenichi

The Wrestler and Rider Commandos (Gatchaman F)

Two special squadrons of soldiers to accompany the usual contingent of green-suited soldiers. The Wrestler Command consists of big, ugly mutant soldiers, seven feet tall and strong enough to give even Joe, with his cybernetic strength, some trouble. The Rider Command, notorious for dropping in on the scene via hang glider, consists of men who are exceptionally agile and skilled fighters.
